Clam Chowder! Risotto! Cheesecake!

This week, we decided to treat ourselves to the fixed menu at Catch Restaurant on Stephen Avenue during Big Taste Calgary. Whenever I eat at fancy restaurants, the inner snob in me comes out and I become absolutely insufferable with my food critiques. Then I remember that I thought water chestnuts were scallops in my microwave dinner and I realize I don't actually know anything about food beyond "this was good" and "this was bad" and "stop going to Earls."

Anyway, this was good:

BC Manilla Clam Chowder - excellent. When I read the menu beforehand I thought they were serving the tomato-based one; I was very pleasantly surprised when they brought out the superior New England clam chowder.

Tuna and Crab Roll - very citrusy; almost too citrusy.

Lobster Risotto with Grapefruit Foam - we ate every last grain of rice in our bowls.

Wild BC Lingcod, Pacific Octopus, Clams, Chorizo, Smoked Paprika - two thumbs up.

Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Cheesecake with Caramelized Banana - we were both afraid that they were going to serve the cheesecake in mason jars; the rectangle cheesecake was definitely a twist but it was really, really good.
